The Chamber is Moving!

After 29 years of operating and managing the Regional Tourist Information Centre and Dionne Quints Museum at 1375 Seymour Street at Hwy 11/17, the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce will be moving to the downtown core. This is a very positive move for the Chamber. The Chamber has strategically re-focussed its efforts, this year, to enhance advocacy, connections, growth and value to our members. As such our current operation has evolved.

Over the years, we have seen a steady decrease in the number of visitors to the Centre and Museum. Recognizing the importance of tourism for the region, we have realized that with technology, travellers have an abundance of information at their fingertips. The Chamber will continue to support tourism, but in a very different way. In fact, we have launched Tourism North Bay recently with an online booking system and we will continue to promote and market the region.

tessacTessa joined North Bay’s workforce in 2012, after studying English at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. She was proudly wearing her shiny new X-Ring, recognized as the country’s premier university ring, when she started working in the financial industry.

Three years later, Tessa ventured into the Not-for-Profit sector when she was offered the Executive Director position at the Military Family Resource Centre, located at CFB North Bay. As a former military dependant and a current military spouse, it is the perfect fit. The MFRC offers services and programming to support the military community, and includes a childcare centre as well as a family medical clinic. It is a dynamic organization that aims to meet the unique needs of military family life.

jobsConcerns from Employers who had postings, yet no applicants; and then applicants stating their are no jobs in the region, had the President of the Chamber concerned that there was a disconnect.  There are many local agencies that post employment opportunities for job seekers and assist job seekers in finding the right matches.  For some reason, there are still some that aren’t finding those qualified applicants or job seekers finding the right fit for a career.  President Jake Lacourse started a Facebook page – just another opportunity for Chamber members and businesses to post upcoming employment postings.  Check it out and post now:  North Bay and District Ontario Jobs
