Fish licence-free! Take a friend fishing!

If you or someone you know would like to try fishing in Ontario waters for the first time (or the first time in a long time), circle the weekend of February 13-15, 2010 on your calendar. For those three days only (12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Monday), Canadian residents can enjoy the fun of fishing in Ontario without a licence during the annual Ontario Family Fishing Weekend.

All other regulations, fees and limits will apply

You must abide by the conservation licence limits set out in the current Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary, available from fishing licence issuers, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, or online. Your limit on walleye and trout, for example, may be two instead of five or six.

Events related to this special weekend will take place across the province.

Fishing festivals, clinics, derbies or educational activities may be held in your area. If you would like event information, please contact a tourist information centre near your home or destination, call the OFFW Event Information Line at 705-748-6324 or visit our events page.

Remember, fish with care, and concern for future generations of people and fish!

Nipissing Junction has a remarkable history, and was a major gateway in the development of our country. This PowerPoint presentation illustrates how Nipissing Junction meets the criteria to become a National Historic Site of Canada.

It begins with a broad review of the area's history - Aboriginal trade and travel, European exploration, the fur trade, and the construction of Canada's transcontinental railways. Historic travel routes are explored, and conservation measures are proposed to commemorate and preserve this national heritage.

We Know How To Love For Haiti

06:00 PM to 11:45 PM, February 13, 2010

Location: The Moose Bar and Grill

It's with pride that we announce the "We Know How To Love For Haiti" concert to be held at The Moose Bar and Grill in North Bay,
Ontario, on February 13th, 2009 at 6:00pm.

Organized jointly by Kemptville resident Jay Manovitch, and several North Bay residents, the event coincides with a string of other Canadian benefits that have exceeded expectations raising a total of nearly 90 million dollars to date.

Following several national events, North Bay will now prove that it has what it takes to show the rest of the country what a generous and supportive population it has.  Marked as a concert not to be missed there will be at least 5 performers throughout the night, with several more being confirmed daily, all wrapping up with a headlining performance by North Bay's own 'The Cody Allen Band'.

Proceeds from the evening will be going to 2 seperate charitable organizations.  The Canadian Red Cross, as well as Doctors Without Borders.

"I feel that although it's tragic and heartbreaking to see the devestation currently, we need to also focus on the need for future care for possibly years to come, and our belief is that Doctors Without Borders will be an institution desperately needed down the road", says Manovitch.

It's extremely exciting to have 'The Cody Allen Band' on board for this event.  Given his last year's schedule and an upcoming national tour we weren't sure if he'd be able to land one of North Bay's most popular artists.  However proving his compassion and appreciation for this serious disaster, Cody along with his management company, and band mates, has managed to re-schedule shooting on his upcoming television show, and pre-production for his tour to make sure he could be a part of this event.

"I'm honored to be a part of this event, and was honestly worried because of my schedule that I wouldn't be able to commit to doing one of these benefits.  Knowing that it's a daily news story is just the tip of the iceberg.  It's starting to effect us all.  It's now a disaster that is showing the world that Canada is a country to call on when in need, and I'm excited to show my pride for Canada, and do what I can to help ease the pain.  It's also exciting for me to play in my hometown, as it's not that easy to get home to do a show these days!" said Allen when reached in Ottawa.

"It took some work and some rescheduling, but I ensured that Cody would be able to make this work.  He's passionate about this cause, and had expressed several times that if something came up in North Bay, he had to be a part of it, so we made it happen", said Rian Malloch of Cody's management team.

Other artists slated to perform include North Bay's own Double Popped Collar, Brass Tactics, and Bohemian Cove.  Ottawa resident and finalist in Canada's largest radio contest 'The Big Money Shot', North Easton.  North is the singer and songwriter from Ottawa Band 'My Favorite Tragedy', and will be on tour supporting Cody Allen this year.

Cost of the event is $10.00 and tickets will be available at The Moose (134 Main Street East North Bay) beginning on Friday February 5th.  Full schedule and performers list will be announced on February 4th, 2009.  There will be several items available through raffles, and a 50/50 draw.  Donations will be accepted at the door as well.

It's anticipated that this event will sell out, and the goal of the evening is to raise $5,000.00!

"I'm calling on every one in North Bay to support this event, and prove that 'We Know How To Love'.  I heard that the last Ottawa benefit concert raised over 4000 dollars, and I know we can beat that!", laughed Allen.
